Miami-Dade had a bunch of firsts on Nov. 3. One of the biggest was the first woman to be elected county mayor.
Daniella Levine Cava led her opponent by more than seven points after all the ballots were counted. Cava is also the first county mayor without hispanic roots to be elected since the 1990s, the first Democrat to win since 2000 and the first Jewish county mayor.
Many were celebrating Cava’s win, but none more so than healthcare workers. She had the strong backing of SEIU 1991’s members who have been on the frontlines of the pandemic at Jackson Hospital.
