New area code for Palm Beach County

Palm Beach County is getting a new area code – 728 – which will serve the same geographic area as the existing 561 area code.

Existing customers will keep their current telephone numbers. New customers and new lines will receive the new area code, which the Florida Public Service Commission approved in December. All will have to dial the area code plus the seven-digit phone number to make local calls (10-digit dialing).

In preparation for the new dialing system, the commission encourages residents to ensure all equipment recognizes the new 728 area code as valid and to begin programming 10-digit dialing numbers.
