Democratic candidate Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick officially became the Representative-Elect of Florida’s 20th Congressional District Tuesday night, winning a Special General Election.
Unofficial results show Cherfilus-McCormick earned 79% votes cast to Republican Jason Mariner 19%. Three other candidates, Libertarian Mike ter Maat and no-party affiliation candidates, Jim Flynn and Leonard Serratore, received less than 1% percent of the vote each.
Cherfilus-McCormick, the CEO of Trinity Health Care Services, largely self-funded a victory over 11 other Democrats in last November’s Primary Election. They were vying to succeed U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, who died in office last April after a cancer battle.
