Federal infrastructure money headed to the Everglades for environmental restoration

by carlislewillard

President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill that passed in November will steer $1.1 billion to Florida’s famed “River of Grass,” it was recently announced.

That money – the largest infusion of federal money to the Everglades – will become the largest restoration project in American history, according to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

The Everglades, she said, is “the lifeblood of South Florida.” It is the source of drinking water for 8 million Floridians and home to endangered fauna and flora.

The money will go toward building pump stations, reservoirs and stormwater treatment areas to help shield the sensitive land from polluted water runoff.
