J. Michelle Childs, a federal judge in South Carolina and University of South Florida alum, is being floated as a potential nominee to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.
Childs jumped on many shortlists for potential replacements as soon as Breyer’s retirement was announced this week. That’s because President Joe Biden has said he’d like to nominate a Black woman to the court, and House Majority Whip James Clyburn has been advocating for her to be the nominee since Biden first took office.
Clyburn said he believes Childs would get support from GOP senators, including South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham.
