South Florida’s Major League Soccer team has proposed building a $1 billion stadium, retail, and hotel complex on a 73-acre site in Miami-Dade.
The project, if approved, would involve closing the city’s only municipal golf course.
Inter Miami CF currently plays home games at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. The league’s celebrity soccer star backer, David Beckham, wants to bring the game to Miami.
The Miami Herald reported Mayor Francis Suarez is supporting the plan to close the golf course. He called for a special City Commission meeting on Feb. 23 to consider the so-called Miami Freedom Park project.
