South Florida’s Winner & Loser of the Week

Winner: Michelle Oyola McGovern. U.S. Reps. Ted Deutch and Lois Frankel are backing McGovern’s Palm Beach County Commission bid. McGovern faces stiff competition from Rep. Matt Willhite, a fellow Democrat. The endorsement from two of the county’s representatives in Congress could play big in the race.

Loser: Voters. Several Miami-Dade County residents have reported individuals claiming to be election workers switched their voter registrations from “Democrat” to “Republican” without those voters’ consent. Prosecutors are investigating, and Democrats argue these allegations deserve more scrutiny from Republican leaders who have raised concerns about voter fraud. Florida GOP officials have denied involvement.
