Miami Gardens Sen. Shevrin Jones launched an initiative Thursday, Operation BlackOut, to boost vote-by-mail registration among minority progressives who are registered but don’t vote.
The program, supported by the Florida Alliance, Equal Ground and Florida Ground Game, aims to enroll 40,000-plus “nontraditional, unlikely Black and Brown progressive voters” before November.
Democrats trail Republicans among active Florida voters for the first time in modern history.
“Florida Democrats can’t simply register our way to a win,” he said. “It is imperative that we boost engagement with sporadic voters, particularly young people in communities of color, who feel disenchanted with politics these days.”
