Two races for Monroe County School Board are heating up ahead of November’s election.
The District 1 seat has two candidates vying to succeed Bobby Highsmith, who served eight years on the board. Gabrielle Brown, a Key West mother and bookkeeper, and Darren Horan, a Key West attorney, are vying to fill the vacated seat.
Meanwhile, Alexandria Suarez, a Key Largo attorney is challenging Sue Woltanski, the District 5 incumbent in her bid for a second term on the School Board, representing the Upper Keys.
So far, John Dick, chairman of the Board and running for re-election in District 4, is unopposed.
