Anti-LGBT legislation prompts Miami Beach pol to announce FL House bid

by carlislewillard

Miami Beach City Commissioner David Richardson says he’s resigning his current office for a bid representing House District 106.

Richardson became the first openly gay state legislator in Florida history upon his election to the House in 2012. Now his dismay over current LBGT bills has him wanting to return, Richardson said on his Facebook page.

“I can’t think of even one anti-LGBT bill that passed,” he said of his previous tenure.

There’s no incumbent in the district, that runs along the Miami-Dade County coast between Miami Beach and Aventura. But he will face at least one rival for the Democratic nomination.
