Broward County is planning to increase access to screenings for heart disease and cancer for thousands of county residents who fall into certain categories, according to the Sun Sentinel.
Commissioners agreed in concept to use $10 million in property taxes for checking 20,000 residents who might not otherwise get these tests.
The initial plan is to screen Black people of all ages, anybody between the ages of 45 and 65 and senior citizens for disease who might not have access to the life-saving tests. The details of identifying the intended population and reaching them still need to be worked out.
