Miami-Dade orders update to soccer stadium impacts on airport

by carlislewillard

Miami-Dade County commissioners have ordered an update to a year-old study of a planned soccer stadium mega-complex’s potential impacts on Miami International Airport.

The 131-acre Miami Freedom Park and Soccer Village development soccer star David Beckham and partners have proposed would rise on Miami’s nearby Melreese golf course. Its plans include a 25,000-seat stadium, practice field, hotels and 600,000 square feet of office and commercial space.

But a February 2021 analysis cited safety, accessibility and operational concerns. While Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has said those issues have “been resolved,” the Miami-Dade Commission wants further confirmation before the project is approved.
