Miami-Dade County Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins was appointed to represent District 8 when Daniella Levine Cava vacated the seat to become Mayor and now Cohen Higgins has started collecting petitions to get on the November ballot.

This week, she submitted 500 petitions to the Miami-Dade County Elections Department to get on the ballot. She’ll need a total of 1,471 of them by May 3 to qualify, according to county documents.

“Today’s initial batch of 500 petitions is a testament to our incredible supporters and volunteers who make this campaign what it is,” Cohen Higgins said, according to a news release.
