Democrats sweep elections; House member seated immediately as last gong goes off

by Margaret Willard

As lawmakers prepared for this Session’s end, voters elected Democrat Rosalind Osgood to represent a Broward County Senate district and Democrat Jervonte “Tae” Edmonds to represent a Palm Beach County House district in a special election.

The timing of the election was the result of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ schedule following the death of U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings.

Edmonds was seated on the 59th day of the 61-day Session.

Speaker of the House Chris Sprowls welcomed Edmonds to the “most important deliberative body in all the world.”

Edmonds’ first vote was a “no” on moving up a bill’s effective date.
