Miami-Dade gets $3M state match for transit-adjacent trail revamp

by carlislewillard

Florida lawmakers are setting aside $3 million to upgrade the South Dade Trail, a 20-mile transit-adjacent bike and pedestrian path spanning several south Miami-Dade municipalities.

Rep. Anthony Rodriguez, who is running for the County Commission this year, requested the earmark, which will finance plans and designs of trail improvements.

Paired with a county apportionment, the design project budget will be $6 million.

The trail runs parallel to the South Dade Transitway, which is undergoing a $368 million redevelopment to accommodate “gold standard” rapid bus.

It will provide vital last-mile connectivity to the transitway, according to an Oct. 5 county resolution.
