A skills retraining program for agriculture workers seeking different jobs in Palm Beach and nearby counties has received a $1.7 million state infusion.
State lawmakers dedicated the nonrecurring funds to the Everglades Restoration Workforce Training Program, which provides tuition and employer grants for nonagricultural training.
Sen. Tina Polsky, Rep. Kelly Skidmore and Rep. Matt Willhite sought the same amount through appropriations requests, which stalled until the Legislature agreed on the funding this month.
The program, which operates under the Department of Economic Opportunity, received $750,000 last year and targets college students and jobless, economically disadvantaged, homeless and formerly incarcerated people.
