The town of Palm Beach will have an additional $875,000 this year to refurbish its historic, 95-year-old fire station, thanks to a state funding match lawmakers approved during end-of-Session budgeting.
The funds, which came at the request of Rep. Mike Caruso, will match more than $6 million earmarked locally for the project, which will renovate the facility at 300 N. Country Road – the third-oldest working fire station in Florida.
According to a funding ask from Town Manager Kirk Blouin, damage from hurricanes and “worsening structural and water intrusion problems” needs fixing, as it has made the building unsafe for firefighters.
