UM men advance to Sweet 16 but women fall in NCAA

The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA Sweet 16.

The No. 10-seeded ‘Canes earned that trip by drubbing No. 2-seed Auburn 79-61 Sunday. That followed an opening-round 68-66 win over No. 7-seed USC.

Miami now plays Iowa State on Friday in Chicago.

After the narrow win over USC, the Hurricanes dominated Auburn from the start of Sunday’s game. Miami dominated — never trailed and outscored the Tigers 46-29 in the second half.

The news wasn’t as good for the UM women’s basketball team.

After dispatching USF 78-66 to open the tournament, Miami was eliminated by top-seeded South Carolina 49-33.
