The Mayor of Lauderdale Lakes and former Democratic state Representative is departing the Mayor’s chair two years ahead of schedule to run for a Broward County Commission seat.
Hazelle Rogers represented House District 95 for an eight-year stint in 2008 and was elected Lauderdale Lakes Mayor in 2016. But the lure of an open seat on the Commission has her itching to use her experience in a wider venue.
“I’m engaged in the economic issues of the county,” said Rogers, who has already raised $33,016 in her bid to represent District 9.
Gubernatorial appointee Commissioner Torey Alston currently represents the commission district.
