Philippe Bien-Aime charges to front of six-way fundraising race for Miami-Dade Commission

by carlislewillard

A crowded race to determine who will replace term-limited Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime has a new frontrunner: North Miami Mayor Philippe Bien-Aime, whose February donations haul catapulted him to the head of the pack.

With nearly $214,000 as of Feb 28 between his campaign account and political committee, Bien-Aime leads five other candidates in the (technically) nonpartisan race: Family Action Network Movement founder and director Marleine Bastien, former high school principal Wallace Aristide, retired firefighter William Clark and former North Miami Mayor Josaphat “Joe” Celestin and Monique Barley-Mayo, who, if elected, would join cousin Keon Hardemon on the Commission.
