To avoid challenging incumbent Republican Sen. Ileana Garcia, government and public affairs consultant Vicki Lopez will run in redistricted Senate District 38, where she’ll face at least one Primary opponent.
A former member of the Lee County Commission who served in numerous Governor-appointed roles focused on education and criminal justice reform, Lopez announced the move to SD 38 – which spans a large portion of Miami-Dade County’s coast, including all of Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay – in a Sunday Instagram post.
She’ll face fellow GOP candidate Alina García and, if victorious, Democratic business owner and LGBTQ community member Janelle Perez.
