Lawmakers champion earmark for Palm Beach cancer aid

by Margaret Willard

The Promise Fund of Florida, a South Florida nonprofit helping underserved women receive cancer screenings and treatments, is on track to receive $450,000 in this year’s state budget.

Championed through legislation by Sen. Lori Berman and Aaron Bean and Reps. Kelly Skidmore and Matt Willhite, the apportionment will fund staff additions at the Promise Fund Navigator Program.

The program guides women of color with or at risk of having breast or cervical cancer through the screening, diagnosis, treatment and completion of care processes.

Numerous studies found that women of color are at significantly greater risk of dying from the diseases.
