The paper foundation for the Broward County Convention Center’s “world class” hotel has been laid: Broward Commissioners authorized borrowing $389.5 million to build a 29-story, 800-room facility that will be connected to the new, super-sized Broward County Convention Center.
The signing for the hotel financing comes after the county borrowed $487 million in December to expand the convention center. The debt is going to be paid through bed taxes. Officials had previously delayed borrowing the money as the pandemic shutdown iced those revenues.
The hotel, located between Fort Lauderdale’s airport and cruise port, is expected to be completed in 2025
