The state Legislature’s failure to pass any kind of meaningful reform to stop the next condo collapse like Surfside’s earned the state’s Republicans a drubbing.
So now comes Florida’s Democratic Reps. Charlie Crist of St. Petersburg and Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Weston to make another effort.
The two have introduced federal legislation that would make it easier for condo owners to finance special assessments needed for repairs. Those assessments reportedly stopped the residents of the Champlain Towers South from repairs.
The legislation would expand access to two loan programs guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
