South Florida’s Winner and Loser of the Week

Winner: Michelle Oyola McGovern. McGovern secured an endorsement from the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association as she pursues the District 6 seat on the Palm Beach County Commission. McGovern, a Democrat, nabbed the endorsement over her main opponent in the Democratic Primary, Rep. Matt Willhite. Willhite, an experienced firefighter, has courted support from firefighter organizations in the region.

Loser: Miami-Dade condo owners. Residents had already been reeling from the lack of action on post-Surfside reforms during the recent Legislative Session. Now, reporting shows condo insurers are pumping up prices, leaving condo associations to pursue cheaper, but less protective plans.
