Miami City Commissioner Ken Russell announced he will not seek a seat in the U.S. Senate after all as he acknowledged that Democratic U.S. Rep. Val Demings has a better shot at ousting Florida’s senior Sen. Marco Rubio if she gets the Democratic Party nomination.
Russell, instead, will be trying to upset freshman GOP U.S Rep. María Elvira Salazar in Florida’s 27th Congressional District.
It’s for the good of the party, he said.
“We need to be organized as Democrats and we just never are,” he said.
Nationally, the Demings-Rubio match-up is one of the most-watched contests.
