Broward County’s disgraced Sheriff Scott Israel, who Gov. Ron DeSantis removed from office following the Parkland shooting that left 17 dead, has a new job: Opa-locka police chief.
Israel will oversee 47 officers, according to The Associated Press. That’s in stark contrast to the 2,700 deputies and 700 firefighters he oversaw as Broward County Sheriff.
DeSantis removed Israel from office nearly a year after the high school massacre, saying that he failed to keep children safe and displayed poor leadership skills. The shooting response came under fire when it came to light deputies were not trained to confront a gunman.
