The Panthers rallied from the precipice of defeat Wednesday to beat the Capitals 5-3 in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series.
Florida is one win away from advancing to the second round. Game 6 is Friday at Washington.
The Panthers trailed 3-0 in the second period but stormed back behind Carter Verhaeghe, who had two goals and three assists. Claude Giroux also had a goal and an assist
“Things are going pretty well right now for me and the team,” Verhaeghe said. “We’re up 3-2. We have two chances to win one game, so things are looking pretty good.”
