Hours before President Joe Biden’s rescinded President Donald Trump’s policy isolating Cuba, Charlie Crist had a roundtable in Key West on the growing Cuban refugee crisis.
The Democratic gubernatorial candidate urged the Coast Guard to continue helping those who are part of what he calls the largest mass exodus from the island nation in 40 years. The Cuban government is in the midst of a crackdown on dissenters.
“As we keep the pressure on the regime, we must come together as elected officials, government agencies and community leaders to treat Cubans fleeing the island with compassion and dignity,” Crist said.
