Lauren Book’s first ballot contest produces a groundswell of support

Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book has been representing Broward County in the Legislature since 2016, but she’s never been up against a competitor on the ballot until now.

In the first full month since former Broward County Commissioner Barbara Sharief announced her bid to represent Senate District 35, however, the troops have rallied to Book’s side.

April was the strongest month of fundraising in Book’s career – she raised $467,740. Book qualified for the ballot with more than 2,600 petitions signed. And she’s received the endorsement of former state lawmakers now on the County Commission and a slew of legislative colleagues.
