Clank! Heat’s offense was a no-show in blowout loss

by Margaret Willard

The Heat was harassed by Boston into a historically dismal offensive performance, falling 102-82 Monday to even their Eastern Conference final 2-2. The game was not as close as the score indicated.

Boston jumped to an 18-1 lead and cruised from there, leaving the Heat no openings. Jayson Tatum had 31 points for Boston, 13 more than Miami’s starters had combined.

The 18 points by starters are the fewest in a playoff game since the NBA began tracking that in 1970-71.

The Celtics did this even though defensive player of the year Marcus Smart sat out with a bad ankle.
