Deerfield Beach activist finds Tallahassee’s Free Speech Zone not so free

by carlislewillard

Deerfield Beach church-separation activist Chaz Stevens has exercised his free speech rights in the Capitol Rotunda’s Free Speech Zone for nearly a decade, including one that got him on Comedy Central’s Daily Show.

But his latest, skewering the state’s legislation that regulates gender identity or sexual orientation instruction in schools, is not being allowed.

Stevens was denied entry into the Free Speech Zone even after he downgraded his proposed display showing Gov. Ron DeSantis as Playboy’s cover model to a blank square foamboard sitting on an easel.

“This is a Free Speech Zone,’” Stevens said. “Yet they are blocking me.”
