Tread Standard, a mysterious donor behind large donations to Florida Republicans, is again the subject of a Federal Election Commission complaint.
The Campaign Legal Center has filed an FEC complaint against Tread Standard, which since 2015 contributed $680,000 combined to Gov. Ron DeSantis, U.S. Rep. Carlos Giménez, Senate President Wilton Simpson and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, among others.
The company, which a 2015 investigation linked to homebuilding giant Lennar, is an illegal “straw donor” hiding the true sources of its donations, said Saurav Ghosh of the CLC.
“Tread Standard,” he said, “has no known investments, assets, commercial activity or income.”
