Law inspired by MSD shooting bolsters student mental health

by carlislewillard

Another piece of legislation that was inspired by the 2018 tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School has been signed into law.

The new law (HB 899) aims to fill in gaps in the care for students with mental health problems by requiring each school district to have a mental health coordinator, much like the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act requires each school to have a school safety coordinator.

It also requires that any student receiving behavioral health services through school also be connected with community resources to allow for better coordination between the school and the community.
