Winner: Surfside families. Lawmakers used a Special Session on property insurance to pass a measure reforming the state’s condo inspection laws. A judge also gave preliminary approval to pay $1 billion to the families of the 98 people lost in last year’s condo collapse.
Loser: Matt Willhite. Former Wellington Mayor Bob Margolis, an ex-colleague of Willhite’s, rescinded his endorsement of Willhite in the District 6 Palm Beach County Commission race. Margolis now supports Willhite’s main rival, Michelle Oyola McGovern. Willhite did retake the money lead last month, but McGovern remains close, and losing a backer is never a good look.
