Judge Renatha Francis of Palm Beach County’s 15th Judicial Circuit is among the list of nominees to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Alan Lawson and many political observers believe she will be the Governor’s pick – given how Gov. Ron DeSantis picked her before.
Francis was headed to the court in 2020 when former justices Barbara Lagoa and Robert Luck left the state Supreme Court for the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. But Francis was four months shy of being a 10-year bar member as minimally required.
If appointed, Francis would become the first Jamaican-born Florida Supreme Court Justice.
