Broward County monkeypox cases spur emergency meeting

by carlislewillard

With the state Health Department reporting eight monkeypox cases in Broward County – and most U.S. cases involving men who have sex with men – a Wilton Manors nonprofit is calling an emergency meeting.

Our Fund, an agency that matches donors with LGBTQ-supporting causes, is having a town hall at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wilton Manors Pride Center, 2040 N Dixie Hwy.

David Tobin, president and CEO of Our Fund Foundation, said he believes the infections are being underreported.

“As a marginalized population, the LGBTQ community is used to standing up for ourselves,” he said, of the meeting’s goal.
