Roxey Nelson will lead state’s biggest health care worker union

by carlislewillard

Roxey C. Nelson is the new executive vice president chosen to lead Florida’s 1199EIU, a Miami-based union that represents 25,000 active and retired health care workers.

Nelson will be succeeding Dale Ewart who is retiring after a 40-year career in community organizing.

Nelson, a graduate of Rutgers University and Pepperdine University, has worked for the Florida region’s 1199SEIU for more than 15 years, most recently as vice president of politics and strategic campaigns.

In Florida, the union represents a host of workers, from housekeepers to registered nurses, who work in about 80 nursing homes and 30 hospitals across the state.
