Winner: Danny Perez. Challenging Perez, a future House Speaker, would have been an uphill fight for anybody. But Perez avoided needing to exert any effort this campaign season, as he was one of several South Florida incumbents who didn’t court a challenger by Friday’s filing deadline. That lets Perez dodge a repeat of 2020, when he faced an incumbent backed in part by ads funded by ex-Speaker José Oliva.
Loser: David Rivera. The repeatedly disgraced Rivera surprised the political world with a late filing Friday to run for a House seat. Yet, just like 2018, he failed to qualify. Oops.
