Political polar opposites: We met, parted as friends

by

Speaking at a corporate event about my books, I found a seat at a restaurant counter and struck up a conversation with the man next to me. It could have gone poorly.

I live 60 miles from the Mexican border. He lives even closer to Canada’s border. We quickly discovered how opposite our views are on immigration. We spent 20 minutes discussing the issue as we enjoyed our meals. It was a spirited, civil discussion.

We parted as friends, agreed to stay connected online and respect our differences. That’s how life used to be in America – and can be again.
