Coral Ridge Ministries’ designation as a “hate group” will stick, despite a court case that went to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Fort Lauderdale church’s condemnation of homosexuality drew the “hate” designation from the Southern Poverty Law Center, rendering it ineligible for the Amazon Smile program, the Sun Sentinel reported. The program allows shoppers to designate a portion of their purchase to charities, but those with the law center’s label are prohibited from participation.
The church then sued the law center for defamation.
The law center has successfully argued its First Amendment right allows them to make the designation.
