The contest to represent Broward County’s Senate District 35 is one of the most-watched in the state and Democratic Senate Leader Lauren Book’s June haul proved it.
Book reached a new personal record for monthly fundraising in June, drawing $539,000 in contributions.
Book has a rival on the ballot for the first time in her political career, former Broward County Commissioner Barbara Sharief.
There’s no Republican in the race, so Aug. 23 will be an open Primary, with all voters regardless of political party, eligible to vote for either candidate. And that could present a new wrinkle in the contest.
