Both Democratic gubernatorial candidates Charlie Crist and Nikki Fried said that Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony would be suspended if they were elected to replace Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Sun Sentinel reports.
Tony was appointed to succeed Sheriff Scott Israel after the Governor removed Israel from office in the wake of deputies’ poor performance during the Parkland shooting. Tony was subsequently elected in his own right in 2020. But Tony’s now facing a state investigation into his failure to disclose on his official applications that he killed a man while a juvenile living in Philadelphia.
His police certification is under review.
