‘Canes miss out on two top football recruits

University of Miami football coach Mario Cristobal has had a fine recruiting run with the class of 2023 as he builds his program. But even Cristobal can’t win ’em all.

The Hurricanes lost out on two touted prospects when one of the nation’s top safeties, four-star standout Joenel Aguero of St. John’s Prep in Lynn, Massachusetts, chose Georgia over Miami and several other top programs.

Also, four-star offensive lineman Payton Kirkland of Orlando’s Dr. Phillips High School committed to the University of Texas over the Hurricanes, Florida Gators, Florida State, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Michigan State, among many other top programs.
