Deerfield Beach’s Branhilda Richardson-Knowles Park was built to memorialize the “Old Colored Cemetery” that nearly became townhouse homes.
Records show that about 300 people were buried there when segregation laws kept the races separate, even in death. But the private property was sold and fell into a developers’ hands until a study found bones there.
Now, District 2 City Commissioner Ben Preston is hosting an event to discuss what additional artwork residents would like to see installed there.
A light dinner will be served 6 p.m., Monday, at the Hillsboro Community Center, 50 Technology Drive. RSVP to [email protected].
