Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is endorsing Alexandria Suarez for the Monroe County School Board.
Suarez is up against Sue Woltanski in the race to represent District 5 on the board.
The former assistant district attorney and teacher is one of 29 School Board candidates around the state so endorsed as “pro-parent and student-first.”
“As a parent and former teacher, I fully understand the importance of accountability and parental rights in the classroom,” Suarez’s written statement says.
The gubernatorial endorsements are unprecedented for the recent past and reflect DeSantis’ interest in educational materials and whether parents have a role in it.
