Ron DeSantis warns group backing Miami-Dade School Board member to stop using his photo

A lawyer representing Gov. Ron DeSantis is warning a political committee supporting the re-election of Miami-Dade County School Board member Marta Pérez to stop using photos of him to imply he’s backing her campaign.

Ben Gibson, an attorney with Miami-based firm Shutts & Bowen, sent a cease-and-desist letter to pro-Pérez group Parents United for School Excellence, which funded mailers showing DeSantis and Pérez together and a picture of the Governor giving a thumbs-up.

That “unauthorized” use of DeSantis’ image, Gibson wrote, “creates a false and misleading impression” the Governor supports her.

DeSantis has in fact endorsed Pérez’s “pro-parent” opponent, Monica Colucci.
