Democratic candidates for CD 27 trade barbs, accusations as Primary nears

by carlislewillard

Things have grown uglier between Sen. Annette Taddeo and former Miami Commissioner Ken Russell as the Aug. 23 Primary for Congressional District 27 approaches.

Russell’s campaign accused Taddeo of selling Senate votes to the sugar industry, whose agriculture practices can hurt the environment.

Taddeo, in turn, slammed Russell during a debate for “giving away” Miami’s largest greenspace to developers of a Major League Soccer stadium.

The two Democrats, who spent a combined $529,000 last month, mostly on ads, are competing with “unapologetically progressive” candidate Angel Montalvo.

The winner faces incumbent Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar or far-right candidate Frank Polo.
