Three Democrats are running to represent the agricultural swath of Palm Beach County on the Commission, but it’s the contest between outgoing Rep. Matt Willhite and Michelle Oyola McGovern, former Sen. Bill Nelson’s longtime staffer, that’s sent spending for the race to stratospheric levels.
Democrat Sylvia Sharps, a grant writer, is also running for the seat now occupied by term-limited Commissioner Melissa McKinlay, but turn on the TV and or open your mailbox, Willhite and McGovern dominate. Their collective spending on the race is approaching $1 million.
Whoever emerges from the Primary will face Republican Sara Baxter, real estate agent.
