Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is the incumbent representing a Black-majority district in Congress that spans Broward and Palm Beach counties, but the contest is very much like an open seat.
Dale Holness, former Broward County Commissioner, is challenging her – after losing to her last fall by just five votes. The rematch also has a third competitor in the mix, state Rep. Anika Omphroy also filed for the seat.
Cherfilus-McCormick and Holness were competing among a larger field of Democrats – nine other candidates – and for far fewer voters. The Primary Midterms in 2018 brought out 45 percent more voters in this district.
